Growing up I was always that kid who was as skinny as a rail and not all that athletic. It wasn’t until college that first entered a weight room and learned how to lift weights. From that moment on I’ve been a gym rat for most of my adult life. I’d go through my phases of being consistent and inconsistent but overall managed to get into and maintain a much better overall level of fitness.
Right after I turned 30 I learned that my dad had leukemia. Feeling like I didn’t know what to do to help I learned about Team In Training. Through them I got trained by some of the best for my first Olympic distance triathlon (1 mile swim, 25 mile bike, 6 mile run) and in return I fundraised several thousand dollars for cancer research. I got hooked on the multi-sport scene and would go on to compete in several more events in both Hawaii and California.
Shortly after relocating to Texas in the summer of 2008 I was introduced to P90X and all of the Beach Body products. Like most people I had seen the P90X infomercials and was intrigued and skeptical at the same time. After hearing the testimony of someone who had personally used it I decided to go for it and see what happened. Thirty days into it I knew I was hooked. The muscle confusion approach that P90X uses to keep your muscles growing and guessing the entire time really is the key. In the past I’d plateau in my growth and in the process become disenchanted with my effort. That always resulted in my giving up for a while. Since discovering P90X I cancelled my gym membership and I don’t expect to ever return.
I’ve enjoyed my results so much and have had enough people ask me what it is that I’m doing and if I could help them that I decided to become a Beach Body coach myself. Now that I have myself in a position to help others achieve their health and fitness goals as well as fulfilling my dream of being an entrepreneur, I couldn’t be happier. I currently reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex with my wife and two boys.
Why?
Everyone who is passionate about what they do has a “Why” statement. For me, my “Why” statement is made up of a few different parts:
Why Reason #1: Be a good example.
My family needs me to be the head of my household and that includes being a good example of healthy living. As my boys grow up they only get bigger (and heavier) and I want to be able to keep up! As the years roll by I look forward to an active lifestyle with my wife and best friend.
Why Reason #2: Helping others.
My entire professional career has always been centered on helping others. Whether it was in the non-profit industry or public education, it’s always been a need for me to know that what I do matters and helps my fellow man.
Why Reason #3: Society needs to change.
This current generation stands to have a shorter life expectancy than those before them. Childhood obesity, Type 2 diabetes and soaring healthcare costs are growing out of control and at unprecedented rates. Forward-Fitness is changing one body at a time and offers a program for all ages and ability levels.
